Any idea what the plant in the middle is? It came in the box you sent me and is doing great - I just don't remember what it's called.

Hey Lisak................no clue...............just kidding!

It looks like creeping primrose, should be getting flower stalks soon. This is what mine looks like right now.

@addy1 How tall does it get and will it tolerate zone 8b?

(Going to have to change my profile from 8a to 8b. I was looking at a map today, and apparently our parish -- we have parishes instead of counties -- sits on the dividing line between a & b, and we're in the southern part of the parish. Geesh!)

It gets around 2-3 foot tall, blooms for quite a while, I have it "floating" in one of the stream ponds, yank some out off and on to keep the stream from being blocked up.

In looking it up on line it would do fine in zone 8

I can attest to that - in the bog, next to the bog, close to the bog, in the neighbor's yard... it's a grower!

A gardening friend once told me "if another gardener is looking to share plants with you, you can be sure it's not because they're hard to grow!"

I've lost a few along the way. Luckily I have a short memory - if they don't come back I kind of forget I even planted them. Unless I come across the plant tag - haha!

We are zone 6b. So ow they are done with, also lost a hibiscus that managed to survive last winter, gong this winter, ow....................

OK, boys and girls, sorry but I have to disagree with you all. The plant being discussed is NOT creeping primrose, but lesser spearwort, also known as water crowfoot or water buttercup (ranunculus flammula, judging by the height). A second variety, ranunculus aquatilis, only grows to about 4" tall. Creeping primrose has a running habit, with wider leaves that come off the sides of the stems, more like fingers on a hand. These stems also tend to spread across the water, rather than grow upward. Google either name for pictures.

lol I was going by what I was told, when the plant was sent to me. Will look them up.

Yep seems it is lesser spearwort, looks identical to what is growing

Thanks!

You're welcome! It just so happens that I brought some creeping primrose in for the store for the very first time this year, and it didn't look like the picture at all. Next year I'll have to find some spearwort, if it grows that well. Always looking for new (to me) plants for the garden center.
