I found this forum when I was researching how to build a bog filter for my little stock tank pond. The pond bug bit me a few years ago, and I haven’t looked back lol. Right now I have a 40 gallon stock tank pond and a 35 gallon pond container that’s new this year. Just waiting on the weather to warm up so I can start planting. Here are a few photos of the oval stock tank pond and the fish, and the new pond.

Welcome to our forum!

Yep looks like a real pretty koi, it will need a lot more water soon.

A lot on here have converted to just bog filtration for their ponds.

Yes, I actually have two koi that I got on some poor advice last year. They’re small right now, but I know they’ll be needing a new home soon.

Nice to hear, we run into pond people that think the koi will only grow as big as the pond it is in.
Get some shubunkins, they have great colors, some call them poor mans koi. I have mainly shubies

So the shubunkins stay fairly small? I do want to do a larger pond project at some point, but from what I’ve been reading, koi need lots of room.

Mine are from around 8 inches to 10 . In my 300 gallon old hot tub pond I have just fantails. They stay the smallest.

For your pond I would probably get fantails, they have them in shubunkin colors. Not the best pictures pulled off the tv screen.

I have around 10 in my 300 gallon pond with a small bog filter. They do great.

Hey, what's that thing in the first picture that looks like an upside down bottle?
I think it's one of those fish tube/displays, you know, like when they invert an aquarium so the fish will rise up and you can see them? Quirky thing but the algae loves it more than I ever would.

Yeah it’s just a little DIY fish observatory. They can swim up there and look around. It’s a pretty new install, and I’ve seen them using it a few times, but it’s hard to get a photo because they’re still kind of shy. Just let me know if you’re interested and I’ll see if I can find the tutorial.
