Hi everyone I’m hoping your expertise can steer me on building a pond with a ground water issue. I’m living in France and part of our garden is a sort of basin, it’s incredibly overgrown but seems to have had a stone edge at some point, it’s approximately 20m by 10m in a ovalish shape, in the winter and spring it fills up with water and persists even without rain but in the summer and autumn it’s dry so I’m assuming it’s groundwater riding in the winter and dropping as we get towards summer. My question is can I install a pond in the basin and if so how do I overcome the rising ground water problem? Cheers

Hello and welcome!

We have a high water table where I live. When I built my pond, I made it partially above ground so that the water level was higher than the ground level. It worked for my situation, but it may or may not work for you. I’m sure someone else will chime in with other alternatives.

All the words in the world can not say or give as accurate a description as can a couple pictures. yes you can install a pond when ground water is filling the excavation fully. but we will get to that after a few photos
