ive recently constructed a pond for native turtles and fish, prior to this ive been into my native fish and planted fish tanks.
my pond is 9000L and 80cm deep. the pond is only lightly stoked with 4 eastern long neck turtles 1 koi/goldfish and 5 aussie bass. for now all i have been able to afford for filtration is a pond one stingray 15000 pump and pond one 15000 uv pressure filter. so far there is only a hand full of plants in the pond soon to be quite alot.
the pond did have sand on the bottom but i was having water clouding issues so i removed about 700kg of the sand and used it for the basking areas around the pond for the turtles.
ive joined this forum because i seem to have water clouding issues my water is never clear i can never see the bottom and would appreciate whatever help i can get on improving this.
ive been considering upgrading my filtration and circulation however before i make the leap i wanted some advice, i was considering upgrading my filter to either a aquael super maxi 25000l filter and matching that with the corresponding pump with a T joint in the pump line so half the flow goes into the filter and half boosts circulation because from what ive read the filter is suited to max 12000 LPH. i have also been considering constructing a skippy or my own larger bio filter and possibly a 36w uvc.

thank you

Welcome to the forum from a dank and dismal Plymouth UK Jayke, if its koi and fish health I'm your man @Marshall is the man to speak too for aquatic turtles, @Mmathis is the lady to speak too for land turtles .
When you say you only recently constructed your pond in what time frame are you speaking a few weeks or months , it may well be that your pond isnt yet cycled .
A skippy filter isnt that hard to throw together we put one on our pond after one of our votrex style filters sprang a leak some years ago we had a skippy filter up and running in just a few days total cost for everything needed to construct one only £45.00 UKP [not sure on your exchange rate even though we spent $232.00 AUD buying two books from an Australian vet called Dr Richmond Loh who along with another vet Dr Matt Landos called Fish Vetting Essentials and another who's title is Fish Vetting Medicines [formulary of fish treatments] just before Chistmas, I thnk it worked out to £120.00UKP
T joints I know from my indoor koi days are nutoriuos to get an even flow from but its an idea you could possibly make work for you .

It may well do but plan it out first ask your local Aquatic store for advice on the filters as being a koi man we have a huge battery of filters on our own pond however I feel sure someone here may be able to help

ive asked my local aquarium and fairly experienced with aquariums the advice they offered wasnt' the best they kind of danced around a answer.
my local koi specialist suggested adding river stones to the bottom to prevent the bottom being stirred up which i kind of agree wit un do understand but theres also a few issues with that with say waste etc building up around the stones but i do have a cleaner i just have a feeling its something more to do with filtration etc. he then suggested that if that didnt solve it consider increasing the water circulation which would result in me purchasing the new pump which then leads me down the road of building a skippy or purchasing a larger filter or building a massive bio filter. but theres just too many options at the moment to sort of make me feel confident enough to choose how to go about anything. i think if i was to up the filter and pump then add a skippy then a bigger uvc im looking at about a $1200 upgrade .im cool with building the skippy i know it will help in the long run but i dont think it will solve it alone. hopefully as people read ill get some more help ill put some pics up tomorrow. its nothing special but soon enough it will be.

You could even run a couple of skippy's [two or three] in sequence using different filter mediums as the water flows through the them the courser medium catching the detritus then finer and finer mediums which has the effect of polishing your water with it coming out crystal clear the return end and just put an inline pump at the return end then your 36 watt UVC , incidentally the same wattage I use on my own pond A 36 watt Aqua pond who are part of the Aqua pasific group .

That is very true @MitchM @Meyer Jordan @HARO @bettasngoldfish @CometKeith and many others can help either with information on ponds both man made and more natural ponds, also on Goldfish, , Comets, Fancy Goldfish, and much much more all you need do is ask and dont be embarrased too either as we all where novice keepers once , weve been keeping now for 29 years so far and this year 2016 will be our 30 th year of koi keeping [man and boy] :wacky:(y)
