What kind of things would be good for fish to use for cover in a pond this size? Both for fish to escape to when predators are after them and for baby fish to hide in from bigger fish.

I was thinking sinking some pvc pipes would be one option? And some piles of large rocks. Any other ideas?

If your can imaging a fish coukd hide in it then it's a good idea. Cement blocks, pipes, dead xmas trees free of pine needles.

If this is a natural half acre pond, there should already be a fair amount of debris that has fallen in over the years, so there should already be plenty of hiding places, plus vegetation that has established itself.

on a 1/2 acre they should be just able to out swim/out dive most anything, anything that catches them, probably will or wouldn't with or without hiding places.
