mine is in a mound of dirt, covered in large stones and planted. cover the mound with weed cloth under the stone & where your not planting.
heres a pic or two. all pics have the top flat stone removed to show weir.
pic#3 shows how hiacynths flourish in the top of the filter, standing 18-24" high and they send out shoots and plants without roots, that grow 1' outside the filter.....

I saw on you tube where someone used old tires and filled them with dirt and kept going up until waterfall was built and tank was hidden .They planted all kinds of spreading and draping trailing plants .They used that straw mat stuff you use for lawns to wrap around the tires to hold dirt in so they could plant
