Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but should the return line hole be even, higher or lower than the hole for incoming water into the biofilter?

I am trying to follow doc's photos almost exactly.

My return line hole is 2" and my incoming line hole is 1".

Thanks so much!

I used a 3/4 bulkhead fitting to bring in my water and had to fabricate a 2" one for the outlet back to the waterfall and pond. I would put the incoming line slightly higher than the water level in the 55 gallon drum to prevent any possible leak at the fitting.

you need not even put an input hole in a barrel filter. put the hose connection right at the top of the down pipe....if it developes a leak it will leak into the filter not on to the ground.
