How to connect ponds at different levels

Hi, I had some kind of concrete block construction in my garden that I dug out to use for the 3 ponds in the pictures. I was hoping I could pump the water from the lowest pond (in the foreground) to the highest one (with the orange hosepipe) and have the water trickle back to the lower level pond. How would I go about doing this? I was set to put a hole in the side and plumb in an ordinary bathroom sink wastepipe, but I thought I'd better ask first.

I did a small plant holding pond but liner lays over liner for the pond itself .Maybe this will work better .Smaller liners you can get cheap

I made a hole, put in a piece of pvc, where I have liner I sort of wrapped the liner around the pipe clamped it with a hose clamp and some pl roofing goop. If the pond was hard, stock tank, we just drilled a hole, again put the piece of pvc through and pl roofing goop. Another one we used a bathroom drain, shower, which clamps down and seals, with some of my fav goop, pl roofing goop

Hi thanks, how are the black pipes we can see connected? Would I have to put a hole through the block work and the liner to achieve this or could I have the pipe going up and over the retaining wall but under the stones that are placed on top it? Putting a hole seems to be very difficult. Also, what kind of pump are you using to have that water flow rate?

Letting each pool overflow into the next lower is the easiest and safest. No holes needed. Better trickle sound too imo.

I would not do the pipe thing. If the pipe became clogged, which would not be uncommon, the upper pools would overflow who knows where. If the pump is at the bottom of the lower pool it would be drained in an hour or two depending on pump size and kill the fish. For sure the pump would run dry pretty fast and maybe burn out. So if you do add a pipe I would still build an overflow so water isn't lost if there's a clog.

Put a piece of liner between each of the ponds, so the water has a path to follow, Top pond, piece of liner under that ponds liner, going down the the lower pond, with that piece of liner laying on top of the lower ponds liner, draping into the water. Make you joining piece of liner wide so you can make a chute with it to keep the water heading where you want it to go. Same with the last two ponds. Pipes can get clogged like wb states, I have a grid over my two pipes so they won't get blocked by floating plants etc. And you have concrete blocks to deal with.

Hey I like the overflow idea as well. If you look at my picture again, you can see a sandstone block with a slop with the hose going round it. This block is in a small trough between the upper and the lower pond. It stays wet and creates a kind of miniature marsh land. I did experiment at first with overflowing, but I still need to guide the water, as it was overflowing on all sides of the upper pond. How should I create the overflow from the top pond? I could only think of taking off a piece of one of the concrete blocks - you can see these blocks behind the sandstone mentioned above.

My black pipes from my filter tank are put on with tank adapters .The easiest is to just put a piece of liner between the two .I just drilled a whole in the stock tank and screwed in the adapter .My first filter was a tote doubled up and needed a bigger so went to a small stock tank and in the summer i put plants in it to help clean the water .

The T pieces in white I use so it does not suck any plants into the openings .It was the only way I could think of to make it work

Hi all, I can't believe 5 years have gone and I never got round to doing this. I made a start using the overflow method, but the liner isn't supple enough to push it into the recess I've made in the blockwork at one end. Can anyone advise me how to do this? Thanks!
