it breaks the siphon should he ever loose power. (The water wont drain back in to the pond) and no the water will not go up it actually sucks air and puts it in his filter

good question drew. With water finding the path of least resistance, it will flow down. Unless he's got that water cranking, it will just go down.

What I want to know is what is that little wire going into the tee.

my guess is an airline for bubbles.
