I grow just enough strawberries and blueberries to eat fresh and give to neighbors (in exchange for eggs from their girls). The grapes are eaten, given away, made into jelly, juiced and some frozen for snacking and acting as sweet ice cubes in drinks. Tomatoes, peppers, green beans, spinach and pokchoi are eaten fresh or frozen. Excess potatoes, onions, squash, and carrots are stored. Carrot tops, if not eaten by caterpillars, are given to my daughter's guinea pigs. Snow peas and asparagus are eaten fresh. The experimental plot has popcorn this year; round ears with red kernels.
I grew up in town. My father grew only tomatoes, they were his passion. We decided against fruit trees here, although we have had them in the past.
