Just moved into a new house, and it has a huge pond, I am guessing £ thousands was spent putting it in. I have two large filter boxes about 4 ft long and 2-3 ft tall feeding two waterfalls, it hasn't been fun for about 18 mths. I turned it on about 2 weeks ago and cleaned both filters then about a week ago I replaced the UV. Yet it is still not clearing, am I being too impatient

I am just curious if it needs another UV although this was probably designed by professionals so surely it would have had one fitted from the start.
Any ideas what I can do to clear it before I start looking for fish

I don't use uv lights, but you might need a new bulb, I read the bulbs get old and need to be replaced, I think once a year, but not sure. Also if it has not been running for years it will need to catch up on filtering.

I can't help you on how long it takes, that is one thing I don't fight. I fight herons, too many plants,(they grow like weeds) but no green water.

You got a lot of water to clean up
Keep the filters clean and running 24/7

At 7 feet deep, I don't know how you would clean the bottom without draining it about 3/4 the way down.
That's great you found someone that has a bit of history with the pond.

I would plan on draining it and cleaning the bottom in the near future.

Whity if its any cossellation alott of ponds in the land are green at the moment our own pond included , like you I changed my UV-C like you we are still waiting.
I had a chat with a friend in trade as to what we should do about this and he turned around and said Dave what you need my friend is a product called clovrleaf

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cloverleaf-Blanket-Answer-800grm/dp/B0037QLLMA

Mix in a watering can of pond water as per instructions on the container, leave to stand for about an hour then with the watering can cover the ponds surface with the mixture which for a number of days will cause your pond to turn white but once it cures you should have cyrstal clear water in the pond

What a beautiful wigelia on your arbor by the pond....just a lovely setting! Do you know if there is debris on the bottom of the pond? If it wasn't netted , there might be a lot of rotting leaves etc., on the bottom of the pond.

Hello and welcome. You have a lovely pond! I can't answer your questions -- but sounds like others on here are doing a pretty good job of addressing them. If there's one thing I've learned as a ponder.....it's that you have to have patience! A hard lesson, but sometimes you just have to sit back and wait to see what happens.

remember not to touch the uv bulb because that can cause problems with the bulb .A uv can take 2 to 3 weeks in some cases to see a difference and can take longer if there is a lot of stuff on the bottom of the pond .There has to be something feeding the green water ,have you tested your water .What is the temperature of the water .A swimming pool net works great on ponds .
