Hi all, Jambo from Bristol UK, I've purchased a house with a disused pond (approx 3m * 4m); I've always liked the idea of having a pond but lack any experience in the art of ponds/fish and so the journey begins

Well, after some blood and sweat I've managed to resurrect the old pond (see before and after photo below) - thanks for the help!

I have a pump / filter / waterfall arrangement and given i will put fish in the pond i believe i need to keep the pump going 24/7?; is there a way i can use a solar panel to power my existing pump/filter when the UK sun is strong enough? So some sort of dual power approach?

@Jambo wow who would have know that pretty pond was lying dormant under all those weeds? Looks great now, you did a wonderful job and yes pump should run all the time. I suppose there could be a solar way but I don't know much about solar. Others will know!
When you put fish in there start w/a couple and add a few more according to how many gallons/liters of water are in there, take it slow. You don't want to overcrowd w/too many fish as that's when things can go wrong. I love the look of Shubunkin goldfish. They come in many patterns and some have long flowing tails.

@jw thanks for the response - I do like the Shubunkin goldfish. I think the pond is approx 2000 litres so guessing about 6 fish is max?

So that's about 500 gals and I think 6 would work out but remember they do breed and lay eggs so you may end up having to find homes for some eventually.
