Is it OK to NOT run pump 24/7?

Now that it seems my bio-filter has cleared away the green water to crystal clear clarity, do I need to continue to run it 24 hours a day?

Think of it as a ventillator on a loved one. You wouldn't turn that off would you? The bio filter removes the nitrates and algae that rob the water of oxygen.
