Decided to get a pond breather for winterizing my pond. Found a really good deal on it, $56 with shipping. It seems there is only 1 brand, Allied Precision.

Are there pics of your ponds on here. Wow, 10 ponds! Would love to see them.
I am just on my phone, I think I had a link to my ponds in my signature, can't post a link for you. Search for pond in progress.

When you put your pond breather in the pond, check to see where the pump ball-cage is situated. If it's sitting directly on the bottom of the pond then there's the possibility that it will become clogged over the winter.

If the pump ball-cage is sitting on the bottom, pull the breather out of the pond and use cut the water line to the appropriate length, then reattach to the pump. (ie. shortening the distance between cylinder and the ball-cage) so that the pump isn't sitting directly on the bottom of the pond.

Once the ice forms, it lives where it lives.

In my smaller pond I just pulled the pump cage up in a gentle bend, tied it off the bottom. Ow it would sit on the bottom.

I Had one in each pond. Both froze over completely. No fish looses. They work well 3rd year using them.

I'm pleasantly surprised on how durable they are.
I just hose them off each spring and put them in the barn. I clean out the water tubes in the spring, plug them in and they work no problem.
I expect the pump in them will fail sooner or later but I think I'm on my 4th year with mine now.
I run 2 breathers just in case one fails, but I have an unusually long winter season with ice cover.
