Driving up from England a strange thought crossed my mind. At least the pond is looking after its self. When I got home I looked out the back and saw green. (green is the colour of the pond walls). The pond had lost 2/3s of its water. I added a third yesterday and will wait and see what happens. I hope the wee fish are ok.

The joys of ponds

The green carpet algae on the walls of your pond is good to have but the loss of water, yikes! Let it drain down as far as it will go w/o any waterfalls running. Where it stops look all around at that level in the pond to see if any holes show up. Turn off any other pumps too. I have heard of people going around at that level where it stops and putting some milk around as you go to see if it shows where it gets sucked out. You will have to add some water to the pond level when doing this so it will show the leakage area. If the pond does not leak when you turn off all your pumps then you know it's some kind of plumbing issue. Hope you can figure it out!

Darn

Has happened to me, Apple plugging a out flow, deer stepping on an edge, critter shifting rocks. Fine one day down quite a bit the next.

Good luck finding the issue

No Idea, the pond is made out of concrete and painted with green pond paint. (belt and braces so I thought)

Uh oh concrete can crack! I see now what you meant by green walls. Not sure how to fix concrete leaks if you find one................or more! Someone here hopefully can help w/that.

Well found the issue. It ends up that the pump that supplies the bog filter was working too well. The return from the filter is via two 15mm hoses. One of the hoses was blocked by the roots of water mint and water cress. So the filter filled and spilled water on the back side away from the pond.

So despite having to refill it with tap water the good news is that the wee fish are still alive.....result!

Thanks for the hint to check the pump.
