For those of you who may not have seen this- Kidde is recalling 35+ million fire extinguishers dating back over 30 years. If it has a plastic handle or a plastic button on top, its recalled. These are clogging or the top is blowing off and these are not just home use, EMS and fire departments have them. The company is replacing them so check the website to see if yours is on the list.
I'm embarassed to say ours is dated 1993 but has never been used and yet Kidde is sending us a new one out. It's bad if you don't have a fire extinguisher on hand but really dangerous if you have one and it may not work!

Yeah, just checked mine and it's also one on the recall list. I imagine most people have or had one.

We just had ours checked because it is 5 years old. Looks like we will need a new one too.

Thanks for the alert. I didn't even know what brand we have, but I checked, and we have First Alert extinguishers.

My new one has a metal handle, the old one (I have to replace it every five years) that was sitting in the garage awaiting to be dropped off at the Fire Department, is one on recall, should I still drop it off at FD or should I contact the manufacturers?

I would contact the manufacturer. You may get a free replacement.
