The trimmer uses a double edge razor blade sandwiched between two j-hook shaped pieces of plastic. The pole is an 8' long piece of wooden closet rod. The edges of the plastic are rounded to protect the pond liner. To use it you hook the end over a leaf or flower stem, slide down close to the plant crown, then give it a sharp tug. Then turn the hook sideways to lift the loose leaf out of the pond. With this I can reach any leaf in a 20'x20' pond. It's a lot more convenient than getting into the water.
