Leaking filter

If I take my up flow filter apart to fix a leak in the bottom clean out pipe. Will I have to re-seed the filter? I mean will it kill all of the bacteria that has established so far?

If you don't take a long time and it's not to hot you can .I did that also and had no problems ,I had a leak also
