Lillies growing "hair"

I hadn't noticed this until I hadda re-fill the pond after a leak.
When I put the lillies back in the pond, I can see hairs on the pads, kinda like cilia, on a single cell organism.
they've been collecting floating clumps of algae before, and now I'm wondering if this is not an algal growth and they've not been "collecting" but it has been growing on them. Or is it normal for the pads to have "hair" on them radiating from the edges.
It doesn't show up in pictures, so posting a pic would do no good.

is it also on EVERYTHING in the pond ? about 1/2" long ? if so it's a good thing .

I've not noticed it on anything but the lily pads. But Yes it's about 1/2" long.
