Liner patch adhesive

I need a good strong paintable adhesive to add a 12 x 12" patch. I tried the double sided tape with no
Success.

You can try using a marine adhesive sealant. 3M and Loctite make one. But I don't think there's good odds of long-term success. The double-sided tape followed by cover tape is the tried and true method for patching and seaming EPDM. How did you prepare the patch that failed?
