I have a koi pond with a waterfall. This morning I looked out and the pond water was at the lowest level ever. I went outside and turned off the pump and did some filter and rock cleaning. When the pump was off the water level came back up. What is the problem here? How do I fix it?

when you turned off the waterfall off the water drained down into the pond and raised the level. Check your waterfall for leaks.

Addy hit the nail on the head.

When water loss happens, always check the falls first. Rocks shift, dirt settles, plant roots cause water to go where you don't want it to go. Every leak I have had since I started my pond in 2011 has been from the falls. Move some rocks, raise the liner edge and you should be good.

Look for wet dirt on all sides of the falls, That is a good way of quickly finding the leak.
