Lotus plant

Hi guys i have grown a lotus from seed and the leaves started dying off and looking bad after several months after planting so i repotted it ising just dirt out the ground, no garden soil. I removed the floating parts but now the water is very cresmy looking and i cant seem to get rid of algae growing on the leaves. I have tried adding stones on top of soil and no change. It is still young and the stem size is slowly getting thicker and there are nice white tubers developing about the width of my thumb. I keep it in full sun and it appears to grow some what fast. Please help as its the first time i have gotten a seedling to this size and dont want it to die.

Have you fertilized your plant? Lotus are heavy feeders.

No i have not fertilised. What should i use to fertilise and should i be concerned with the colour of the water. I put my hand in it to check temp and it is warm on top and cold at the bottom. Is that normal?

The sun will warm the surface of the water and it will be cooler lower.

You may hear other suggestions but I would recommend aquatic plant fertilizer tabs.
