Newbie here. Just filled up my 2200 gallon pond and have some real shallow shelves that I’m unsure what to do with. What kind of marginal plants can I place in a couple inches of water? Or do I need to fill the pond up higher? Can I just plant some marginal directly into the rocks or will the roots destroy my liner?

Right in the gravel is the way to go. No worries for the liner. If anything, the roots will go up and over the side to reach land, so watch for that. But naturalized plants are the best for appearance and filtration.

Most marginals prefer the 2 - 4 inch depth, so you're good.

I believe the only plant that you need to worry about damaging your liner is cattails. They have sharp roots. Everything else should be fine.
