My new babies!

I have about 10 x 30cm Koi and a couple of 20cm orange Comets and have been blessed with about 50-60 1-2" babies recently. Some look clearly like Koi and the others are black and have a different shape, closer to a Comet (I don't have any black goldfish, they are orange).

Can they interbreed, and if not, is it shape alone that will help me identify between the two?

Congratulations! The barbels or whiskers are what to look for to identify koi.
They can interbreed but usually the offspring will be sterile.
Goldfish usually start out a dark color and then change to orange.
