Got this little guy this evening when I was in Atlanta. He is a Halfmoon Beta and I included several images below. Of course I also had to add one picture of Heckle & Jeckle into this post so they would not get jealous of all the attention Omega was getting :D

I see those poor things all the time in the store in those little plastic lidded things and feel so sorry for them ,talk about animal cruelty to me that is it .Maybe I don't know enough about them but i know i would not like it in those little containers .

Any jealousy with the turtles over there?
The turtles always get jealous especially my "special crew" of the six personal pet ones I have had for years. I guess it's my own fault though cause I do spoil them :D . The worst are Heckle & Jeckle because they are my favorites and they know it too lol. I raised Heckle, Jeckle and Shelly from the time they were hatchlings about the size of a quarter so they probably think I am their father...

Omega sure is a good looking guy/gal! (y)
It's a male and he is also a ham for the camera. First fish I have ever seen that actually swims right up to the camera instead of being spooked.

that didn't take long haha! I gave away my betta because he would be food to my crayfish (my 1st betta got eaten by it already, but I's stubborn and went to get another one, after i saw torn fin I moved him away)... so no betta for me  I could put it in a big pond until cold set in though... may be next year.

If their water is kept clean, they are being fed and water is being kept reasonably warm I don't see it as a problem (remember it's only temporary) In fact, it's much safer for them in an individual cup than to be thrown into the sale tanks at pet stores where they are exposed to parasites and pathogens that they wouldn't be in their cups. Many times they also end up having their tails nipped by other fish or they get stuck to the intakes that are too strong for them to get away from.

In my opinion, It's when the stores don't care for them in the cups that it becomes cruel and many times very sad :(

Everytime I go to the petstore I want to just tell the clerk "I'll take all the bettas please & 45 fish tanks also" lol "Get em together and load them into the truck" :D
