I dug a hole 14 feet long. 7 feet wide and 2 to 3 feet deep. The hole connects the spaces that the 2 previous ponds occupied and fills in the gaps, is deeper and incorporates a lot of space that is new room.

Unfortunately I dug right up to the wall in a few spots and right up to the cement patio at one area. I left no ledge for the liner to overlap the top edge.
So my plan will be to fill the pond 3/4 of the way, then pull back the liner and back fill between the liner and wall with soil to create an area that I can roll the liner over on on top. This will be in an area by the wall that will be lattice. There will never be any foot traffic in that area.
The liner is a Firestone, rubber. 100 pound affair with underlayment.

Can't wait to see the rest of your hard labor in making your new pond. Are you going to put stone or rocks around your pond on top of the liner edge? If so you might want to make a step out of the dirt so you have a lower ledge down in the water to put rocks to hide the liner. then you put rocks or flat stone around the top if you want the look of no see liner. Makes it look more natural. I don't know tho you might have something else planned. Just a tip in case you are doing it the rock way.
These lower rocks are on a ledge like a step a few inches down and the top rocks sit back on top of the edge covering liner. You can't see liner this way.

I'm going to cement flat rocks along the edge, slightly hanging over the edge around the parimiter.
Maybe two stones high. Then backfill the area around the pond to raise the area up a few inches.
I like to use mortar a lot.
I'm sure the waterfall will also be mortar with slate and liner in there somewhere.
The pond has sheer sides.
The area is partially shaded and in the past some light algea growth with the shadows has hid the liner.

One thing that concerns me about the run off of water from the roof .Are there gutters to keep heavy splashing from the pond .

The water gathers and flows into the pond via rain gutters. One singular water spout. It does splash.
This system may be removed as it is not really needed. The other outlet is used for the pools in my tortoise enclosure at the other end of my yard.

The liner is in and the border is mostly done.
Flat rocks and mortar.
The thing is...it rained and washed some mortar into the pond.
I'm posting a new thread on my options.
