Absolute newcomer to ponds and soon to be the proud owner of a large (and historic) clay-lined, natural pond... partially excited, partially filled with fear and trepidation. Can I have broad (preferably experienced) views of whether this pond should have a pump fitted, best plants to reinstate, and whether to try and dredge some of the silt out? Pond is substantial with open entry and exit routes for the water but generally sits still in the summer months. Could be beautiful but has been somewhat neglected... all advice gratefully received.

taking silt out may be for a professional because of how it is made .Does not look to badly neglected and most of the stuff growing is helping the quality of the water .I do not have any knowledge of this but by the pics it does not look really bad .

@Gleavy
That could be fixed up rather nicely to make a gorgeous pond. Wonder if one of those aerating fountain filters would help? Sucks in the water and circulates it all back out.
