Nessie's pond

Here is my pond. It's about 7 ft x 8 ft x 1.5 ft deep. I overwintered my fish outside even though I live near Chicago. We did all of the construction ourselves.

I just caught the depth!! Wow did It freeze all the way down, the pond? That's pretty shallow for Chicago area, you must be farther from the lake? I know it got bitter cold up your way this winter!

Yes, it's solid concrete, and I have it up on concrete construction blocks. I oriented the blocks so the fish have the holes to swim through.

To prevent it from freezing over I got a floating pond heater and it worked great. I got ice maybe 1 inch thick over about half the pond, the rest was open.
