I just bought a house, and one of the things that came with it is a fairly nice thousand gallon pond in the backyard. The house and pond have been neglected for over a couple of years. The filter pump went out about a year or so and the water looks like green soup. I was considering ripping it all out and planting bushes, but I found about eight goldfish in that water that have somehow survived in that mess. I've changed my mind, and I am going to try to restore it. Looks like I have a project.

Replace the pump. What type of filter? Are there any plants in there? Plants help with filtration.
After you get things going, give it time. The water won't clear overnight. Whatever you do, don't add any chemicals.

Thanks for the welcome. I have lots of questions, but I'll post them in the appropriate forum here. Photos forthcoming in one of those forums.

welcome and filters can be easy as a small stock tank and a tank adapter and some lava rock a hole saw cutter and a drill
