I have attached a couple pictures of my pond in this big Mass growing in it. I am in Florida. Would like to know what it is and if I should eliminate it and how I should eliminate it. Thanks for any help.
If you start removing it I would do so slowly as that mass could be why your water is so clear. It takes a lot of nutrients to feed a mass that big.
We use to take an old metle spring mattress without the batting and weigh it down and drag it across. Using a boat or truck preferably . But beware you could create more pockets of the stuff. If the state feels it's invasive they may have a chemical fix.
My pond is not too big. Maybe 20 by 40 and 5 ft deep. I fill it when it gets low I top it up with my sprinkler well. I was just wondering if this is good or bad. It takes up a good area of my pond. I'm not overly concerned with it, though I was just wondering if it would take over my whole pond
So opinions here. Should I remove it? Remove some of it? Or should I leave it alone and see where it grows. What does everybody think? What does everybody think it is?
Hi from Tampa-area (Pinellas County). Most Florida counties have an extension office who will help identify plants and make recommendations on management. U of FL s a great resource, too.
I can't tell if it's this stuff:
Agree with JW - take one, put on a white piece of paper and take a photo and other characteristics: is it free floating? rooted? growing in water how deep, etc. I'd be interested in "what is it".
(welcome to Florida/ GPF).
