I have a new pond about 1 month old, approx 600 gal. 1200gph pump a nice size waterfall and a small pump for circulation at the far side of the pond. I have 2 water lilies, 5 water hyacinths, 4 water lettuce, A few bunches of anacharis, 7 goldfish about 2 in. long and 2 minnows. I have green water and can't clear it up. I've started using barley extract and adding beneficial bacteria. I have batting in my waterfall container for filtering. Also I only feed the fish a couple times a week. And I' have 15 trap door snails, I can't see anything, only the fish if they are close to the surface, any suggestions would be great. Thank you

Takes time for the pond to cycle and build up good stuff in the filters just be patient and you will get there .

You can try a uv light. It will kill the single cell algae. A lot of filters have uv lights built into them. Algae doesn't hurt the fish at all. It only bothers us humans! I would be careful about adding too much else. Sissy is right. A new pond like yours will take time to cycle. You can't expect too much from a pond until it has cycled. You can always do 10-20% water changes every few days. This will never hurt. It will clear up the water and also help reduce harmful concentrations of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate until the pond cycles all the way. Some say water changes encourages spawning because it changes the concentrations of pheromones in the water. I use the water I remove to water my plants. I think the nutrients from the pond water helps the flowers. Also I always treat the water going into the pond by adding declor and letting it sit for a day before I put it in.
