I have been wanting a pond for some time now and so i have decided to get started. first question what size, is good for a newbie? i would like to make it a little on the deep side say 3 ft due to the winters here. I am thinking 4X8. is this a good size or should i start smaller?:)

Ok on the bigger is better. I am probable going to dig mine, my neighbor has a back hole so 2 or 3 scoops should be a nice start. I don't have a lot of room about 10 X 20 space and i need rooms for pumps and all the plans ect....ect. I have a dog wood tree and want to make a little sanctuary. I have a bunch of birds and thought the pond would make a nice addition I just dont want to get it to close to the tree roots and bird droppings.:)
