i may have a problem tested water yesterday nitrite is showing 0.25 so i done 20% water change and another one this morning ...test still says the same ammonia is 0 and ph is 8 thats the same as my tap water and always stays at that ... any ideas why i have a nitrite reading when i have no ammonia, also should i be doing more to get this leval down ..i have cut right down on feeding, but fish do seem well and lively and fins are up ..my test kit has scared me because it says no nitrite is exceptable in a pond !

Your filter has changed the ammonia to nitrites
Given time the beneficial bacteria will grow and take care of your nitrites.
A low dosage of salt about 0.1% is all that is needed to take care of the nitrites until your more bio grows in your filter.
Water changes are good.
