Shannon, I have angles, killifish, tetras and platys in the same aquarium, no problem. Glofish and other tetras would probably be just fine in there as well, if the sizes are similar. The Powder Blue Gourami's tend to not have a long life span for me, but have had them in my community tank. My community tank is 55 gal.
I have 2 puffers in my brackish water aquarium, as the ones I have a brackish, halfway between tropical fresh water and salt water. This tank is a 29 gallon.
I thought that Discus were very difficult to keep, require warmer temps and maybe softer water? I've never had them, but always wanted some! They are gorgeous. My local small pet store does not even stock them, as their water requirements are far different than the other tanks.
Good luck!

You're welcome, Shannon. BTW, my pond "habit" started last year in February when I purchased a 55 gal aquarium with hood and stand for $125, complete with 5 fancy goldfish! I took the aquarium water, as I knew it would be "cycled" and the fish. Couldn't stand to give up the fish, but wanted tropical, so thus began my first ever pond, after tons of reading and question asking on here. Koi pond built last year and new goldfish pond, stream and bog this year. I'm done digging though ... at least I think I am! Love all types of fish, and therefore have the aquariums as well as ponds, and love them all. Obsessed with fish? Maybe! Love to scuba dive, too, so that's how I get my salt water fish "fix".

the only one i see a problem with is the puffer. dont they need brakish water. But the nice thing with the goldfish is you dont have to pay to heat the water and the rest of your fish you would need a heater they are tropical

Puffer could be a serious issue, 1 they like salt and hard water, discus, tetra's, gourami's, angels like soft water with no salt.
The puffer would be far better in with the platies and swordtails, they all like hard water and a little salt won't hurt any of these.
discus really need a tank to themselves. One they are easy to be picked on by most fish as they are quite shy. second they need tank water that is pristine clean. and VERY warm, 85-90 degrees. they don't like a lot of light, and they are far more prone to problems than most fish. IMO one of the most challenging fish to sucsessfully keep, raise, and breed. I've tried them several times and a reef tank and true shark tank was far easier to keep than discus.

Are the in the cichlid family, Larkin? I think they are a very pretty fish!
Shannon, the brackish fish aquarium can have some really cool fish in it, and it's pretty easy to keep, much easier than true salt water. I have mollies in my brackish with 2 green puffers, a mono and an archer. pretty cool looking set up. I have rocks from my pond project in the aquarium to make it look more natural, too. Mollies are typically tropical fresh water fish, but adapt very easily to brackish water. Just have to take longer to acclimate them. I have 3 blacks and 2 white mollies in the brackish aquarium.
Larkin, I didn't know platies or swordtails could go brackish! Wonder why my pet shop never mentioned that! I think they would rather I buy the more expensive brackish fish, I guess. LOL Someone on here said the mollies could work, and when I asked pet shop, they said, "Oh yeah, didn't we tell you that?" LOL
Shannon, as with pond water and any type of "kept" fish, make sure your water is cycled and has good bacterial up and growing in it before adding any fish. That's why I kept the water when I bought the 55 gal aquarium. Already cycled. There are also products to "jump start" your aquarium water. Good luck!
