now the big question can i go ahead and get a few goldfish if i have the pump but no filtration as long as i do regular water changes?

You could put a few in to have something to look at
I have confidence in you to keep the project going ,
and you will have a filter before long

im still toying with different filtration ideas, do people every run fluidised sand bed filtration on ponds? i think i could throw one of them together if it would work well.

Do you have any livestock/farm feed stores? They should at least have the large plastic tubs.

I bought my 55 gallon barrels locally. These are used to ship some sort of geletin(food grade). I get them for $25 USD each.

Here is a pic of one I stole my idea from.

I have linked two of them together like in the pic, but needed to raise the first one up about 3" due to the strong pump.
