Ok. I added some plants to my pond (no fish yet) and I tested the PH and alkalinity and they are both high. What is the best way to lower PH and alkalinity. I know that once I get the ph where I want I can add cruched oyster shells to get it stabilized but how do i lower it? The PH is above 8.4. Is water changes the best way to go or is there something organic I can add? Any help would be great.

What is the ph of your tap water? My ph is always 8.4 and I dont worry about it. If I had ph swings then I would worry.

also wondering about ways to lower PH, mine is at right above 8.0 right now, i have alot of algae also, so i was thinking my first 1/3 water change wouldn't hurt, it's been more than a month since pond has been up. But any alternate routes would help to temp do it incase weather picks up and im not able to change water soon.

It's really hard to lower PH without adding chems.
My PH is 8.3 in the pond and 8.4 out of the tap.
My GH is less than 17.9 and so is my kh.
I buffer my pond w/baking soda to bring up the kh to 200
I add Calcium Chloride to bring the GH up to 80
I buffer my pond and the ph remains stable that means no dangerous ph swings.
Nothing really wrong with high ph as long as it is stable.
