Hi everyone,

My partner and I recently purchased a new home with a pond and I am really keen to learn how to support this ecosystem.

I have begun clearing a lot of the algae and blanket weed and came across this particular plant, which is in abundance.

After some research I am tempted to make a guess and say that it is (or looks similar to) eurasian watermilfoil. Am I correct? And should I be worried?

Kind regards,
JYP

Agree with Mathis, could be hornwort. Either way, it consumes nutrients in your pond, which helps limit algae. If it is overgrowing the pond I would pull it out to where you want it to grow and toss it.

I think Hornwort also. I took a little piece of it and tied it to a rock -- tossed it in the bottom of the pond in the deep part. It grew up like an underwater tree. Nice place for babies to hide! It grows fast but is also really easy to pull and thin out. Just keep what you want and compost what you don't!
