Has anyone planted a non water plant in a woven bag in the rocks and watered with drip irrigation?

I have put soil in woven bags, pots, around 3 gallon in size, set them in water on rocks, about 1/4 up the pot and the plants grow great.

So you're talking about something that's planted where it will be out of the actual water? That should work. My only question would be how long they could grow in the bags - the fully grown size of the shrub would determine that.

The plants are in 1 gal. pots. I plan to put them in 2 gal.bags. They will be in stone about two ft. above water level.

I think you'll be fine for a good number of years. I wouldn't be surprised, however, to see those put roots right through the bags eventually. I've found those woven bags tend to deteriorate over time and become soft enough that a plant can put roots right through them. If that would be a problem where you plan to put them, you might want to try adding a layer of geotextile to the inside of the bag. Just a thought! And a thought that I would think and then ignore my thought and five years later think "why didn't I listen to myself?" Haha!

I have some real good fabric bags, the plant roots go through the bags within 4 months. I use them mainly for starting plants with grow lights.
I use the sip method of watering, the pots are in perlite which I keep full of water, the plants draw up what water they need. Works great.
