Looking for something that I can plant beside a small stream, and that will grow in the soil along a stream edge and maybe creep into the water -- preferably not too invasive, though.

All I can think of is "creeping Jenny," which would work, but would like other options. Are there any herbs that would work?

This is for the stream that will be in my turtle habitat, so any plants need to be on the small side, to stay in proportion to the small stream -- so think almost miniature.

Creeping jenny, also check lowes or hd in the spring, for the ground covers. I have a bunch that flower purple, white, pink, (names at home) all stay on the small size, all grow great and bloom most of the summer. If you end up with too much, just trim. I have creeping jenny along my streams, I just trim it now and then, take the trimmings and plant else where.

Water mint (Mentha aquatica), but it can be invasive. Turts may keep it in check, though. Watercress could be planted IN the stream to overhang the edges.

How about Parrots feather. Think that will grow in moist soil or just tucked in the rocks and will grow into the pond also. Turtles might eat that up.

I have the little short sedums growing in area's around my pond. They tend to try to take over but easy to just grab up a bunch and toss out. There is some in bloom on the rt lower corner side of this photo. The plant stays low but the blooms are a bit taller and it does kind of creep into the pond water a bit.

I was reading about various THYMES, and think I'm going to order some FUZZY [or FURRY, or something with hair!] THYME, as it's a pretty tolerant ground cover. I have some LEMON THYME, but have it planted elsewhere in the habitat.

One of my fav GC's to use with the turts is MONDO GRASS and DWARF MONDO. They won't trail, but are good for keeping soil in place. And the MONDO will [I hope] look like mini-marsh plants :) There's something else, AJUGA, or something, that I've used before that seems to like moist areas, but don't recall its sun tolerance.

Yes, can't WAIT for the stores to start getting their spring plants in!

PLEASE keep the ideas & suggestions coming folks!

I like the black mondo grass in with the green and then add in the mixed kind and it makes a nice grouping
