After much fretting and tinkering I feel like the balance of surface coverage, floating plants, and fish have found their level. Water is clear, fish are happy, and plants are flourishing. All in all a good first summer...now can I survive winter! Thanks for all the help and support from seasoned pond forum members. Some pics to share:

Good looking pond. That second pic is a cool shot. You should be able to survive the winter being in Atlanta, how deep is your pond?

Thanks for all the kind words.

taherrmann, the pond is 3' deep and partially underground, so I should be OK for freezing weather.

Very nice! Glad your pond has reached its balance stage. Now time to enjoy the serenity you've created.

Will you be making a seating area around it? I can imagine many hours relaxing in a chaise near it.

The pond edge is 12" cap blocks that are mortared in place right at sitting height...built in seating!
