Happy New Year Everyone...

i have an above ground rectangular pond, its was built arround 15 years ago and the passed few months i have noticed 3 white patches slowly getting larger on the bottom of the pond and it looks like the mesh that the pond is made of, the pond is not leaking, could i put patches over them and then put a thin layer of something like shingle or get a holding pond get the fish out and install a new pond liner...
if i do the complete change of liner whats the best liner - box weld liner ..
Really stuck on which way to go hence me throwing this out there for suggestions

Thanks for any replies i get

Graham

Patching depends on the type of liner that you have some are repairable but often introduce unwanted chemicals into the water. I was faced with the same situation 15 years ago and went with an EPDM liner as a permanent fix. At the time, I bought an inexpensive Kiddie Pool at Walmart as a temporary holding pond while I did my reline.. It is still holding and pliable...it will likely outlive me!
As a bonus, since you buy the EPDM in rolls, I had enough left over to build a raised herb garden that waters from the roots.
You have a beautiful looking pond and if it were mine,I would just 'bite the bullet' and go for it...best of luck.

The white patches maybe nothing more than a bacterial grouping. I'd play the waiting game to see if im right or if it starts leaking but in the mean time id think about a hospital storage pond a temporary storage so if the pond does start leaking you have a back up.

And then I would go the box welded liner for the simple fact that there are no wrinkles and more suited to raised ponds
