When I first joined this forum I posted an intro thread explaining that I bought a house that had a garden pond that had been neglected. I've been working on the pond over the summer and into the fall. There is still much to do but I thought I'd post some progress photos.
Photo of the abandoned pond from the real estate listing. You can see that there's very little water and it's full of dirt and muck:
How the pond looked when we moved in (overgrown with string algae):
This is after cleaning things up (but still note the bottom is totally covered with rocks:
This is after removing a top layer of rocks and finding that there was a ton of dirt and plants (either placed on purpose or collected over time) underneath:
This is after removing enough rocks/sludge/landscaping fabric to (FINALLY!) find the pond liner at the bottom (still have a few rocks left to remove):
Here are a couple shots from today (still have work to do but it looks a lot better):
For the most part, the remaining rocks on the sides are either weight bearing or are big enough that I'll need help from another person to lift them out of the water so I'm going to wait a little while before tackling those.
Now that things are taking shape, the fish are feeding on the surface (they would not come up before) but they are still very wary of my presence so I'll have to work on training them to recognize feeding time.
Here are a few gratuitous fish shots for the hell of it:
