I have a small waterfall/pond. The pond is 12" at the deepest and approximately 5 1/2 feet in diameter. I am getting proposals to have the pond deepened to three feet with vertical sides to deter raccoons. I'd like to have tinted concrete over the liner to make it easier to clean when needed. I'd appreciate your thoughts on the pros and cons of concrete with goldfish. Thx.

It's has to go through a cureing processes before it will be safe for any fish or plant.

Please consult your pond professional. Thay should be able to walk you through every step.

If racoons are an issue then the 3 foot depth will surely help but they are smart and patient. Having taller sides above the water line and not having any shallow areas for them to stand in will make fishing for them next to impossible but remember they can climb trees with little effort and those claws can hold on to just about anything.

One of the pond/waterfall professionals says they don't do concrete liners, they prefer the rubber liner covered in river rock, that it is not toxic and helps create a balanced ecosystem. I have given him a question on what they use to cover the 3' vertical sides

Thank you for the suggestion about taller sides above the water line. I was thinking of using 1" flagstone with a lip around the edge. One of the pond proposals recommended larger fragmented rocks - like you say for taller sides above the water?

The raccoons are smart and wily. My trail cams show them coming up over a 6' block wall along with the random skunk.

Thx for the info.
