I was looking into pond vacuums and found them to be quite expensive. Has anyone tried using an inexpensive above ground pool filter to vacuum out their pond? I would think you could modify a sand filter with pond filter media and circulate the water back into the pond. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

A know another ponder who just jump pumped water to a trash can full of media. He used a sump pump and then later some other large pump. He said it works... but quickly fills up the can and he had to wait for it to filter out and drain back to the pond. Plus he said if you use a more open media to speed up the draining... then the water returning to the pond is brown from muck being liquefied.

I got my pond vac last year on craigs list. It was the best money spent!
