I have a 22 gal rubbermade bio filter made, im using a 1800 beckett submersible. Was just wondering what you guys have used and diy as a prefilter or settling tank... I want to get some ideas, my bio works fine, just want to refine it, maybe not get as much gunk into the bio. Thanks all

You've got two choices. You can strap together two colanders (or any such item with holes that is plastic) around your pump to prevent more gunk from getting through to it.

Or you can but a smaller settling barrel before your 22g rubbermaid to just catch poop. Kinda like a sieve of sorts--a perforated basket with very tiny holes could act as your poop catcher. So you'd have a basket inside a barrel or tote. Does that make sense?
