Pump and filter

Hey everyone!

So I finally got canister filter and pump up and running and Then I noticed the filter smelt weird like it was burning ..
I just turned it off and left it

But I just realised my pump is bigger than the filter would this be the reason ?
pump is 5000 litres and filter is 4000litres

It could be that the pump is producing to much preessure on the filter, but I could be totally wrong. If your pump is adjustable than you could try turning it down, and see if that makes a difference.
