HI all - I have spent the UK winter building a raised pond with railway sleepers, adjoined to a raised flower bed behind it at the same height as the pond. I have created a small water fall at the back of the flower bed with boulders and the plan is to have a small stream flow from the waterfall base through the plants/flowers and into the pond.

The pond volume is 4000 litres and I have a Hozelock Aquaforce 4000lph pump and Hozelock Cyprio bioforce revolution filter. I have purchased the liner yesterday, but my main concern now is how I will get the water to flow evenly / naturally down the fall (instead of just gushing out the pipe and spraying everywhere) and for this I was planning to buy the below product from Amazon- my only concern with this is that the connection nozzle is max 25mm, and all my flexi hose is 38mm.

The pump came with 25mm > 40mm hosetails which i already cut back for my 38mm hose fitting - Will I be OK keeping the 38mm hose connected from the pump direct to the filter behind the waterfall, and then having 38mm hose running from the filter and using a 38mm>25mm reducing adapter to connect to the below product for the waterfall? Would this cause too much restriction on the waterflow and potentially damage the pump? Or should it not matter if the pump is designed for 25mm>40mm hose?

The only other option I have heard of is using a Y splitter to maintain the normal flow rate, and then have half the water coming from the filter to the waterfall, and the other half directed straight back to the pond via some hidden pipe.

Lastly if there is an alternative to the below product that would work better I would be very happy to hear about it!

Any advice very much appreciated, this is my first pond build so no matter how many hours I spend researching online it would be great to get some guidance from experienced people!

Happy to upload some photos if needed..... need to have a tidy up first :)

Thanks

I will say I was about to recommend a whole bunch of aquascape products, then I realized you were in the UK... they seem to be much less available there.

If at all possible I would go with some sort of aquascape spillway, and they should also have larger connections, however if not possible, you could get a y fitting and two of your spillways, then do some sort of super awsome double falls!

evne just two spillways that goes into one fall would look cool, however you could do as you suggested and have onepipe that goes back into you pond directly.

thanks both! yes the US products seem quite pricey to get delivered to the UK so that put me off
i dont really have enough boulders/stones for 2 spillways so would mean sourcing more of them if i went that route
maybe i should consider the splicing idea and buy a Y adapter....
i have read that if just using a very short piece of the 25mm hose from my filter to the spillway, and keep the longer line from the pump to the filter as 38mm, it shouldnt cause too much restriction, but not sure how true / accurate this is.... last thing i want to do is spend less and then end up damaging the pump or filter (or both) and spending even more.....

Forget the bio fall and where you said your going to build a flower garden. Change that to a bog you have the timbers just make sure your water and those chemical soaked timbers never mingle make sure no water can run over them and get in the pond. but where i was going was to build a bog. the pvc pipe and stone bog is so easy to build. if you have the talent to build retaining walls you can easily adapt to a bog and waterfall . and if you want a stream back to the pond and another waterfall. You blokes in the uk are slow in catching on to the natural filters though it was a brit who really pushed and possibly pioneered the garden pond

I wouldn’t say I’m slow Iv just never built a pond before. Not really sure what your suggestion is ....the whole point of having the raised bed next to the pond is so I have somewhere to plant shrubs / flowers and enhance the water feature further down my garden. if you have some example pics feel free to share

what do you want from your pond? if you want pretty koi or lots of goldfish and clear water they know how to make it happen.
i am only going to have 10 goldfish in a 30 foot by 50 foot pond and water plants. i want a pond without burying pounds of plastic into my soil so i take a little different route. the ideas about ponds, fish , aquatic plants, and plumbing i have seen here is really helping me out. thanks guys!

YOU MAY START OFF WITH 10 but it won't take long to have that number jump to 100 in a pond that size . I strongly recommend a pond with a tail . an area that has a narrow opening to a wider area that fish will feel comfortable in . i block the narrow area of with a piece of plywood so they are now trapped . I feed the fish here so they are use to going there so they don't just know it as the netting area and avoid it . Trust me in a pond that size you can not catch a fish who sick or when you start having too many due to spawning. You can see in the center of the picture the skinny rock pointing to the bottom of the picture that is in the water thats where i close off the shallow area to the left and there's no where to hide .
