I’ve had a Pond for three years now. The pump I used originally is a 3000 gallon per hour pump. My pump just went bad today and I am not able to change it myself due to a bad back. I can get a new pump and somebody to put it in for me. But the new pump I can get is only 2400 gallons per hour. I think they called it a mag pump. My question is how do I determine whether the 24 00 gallons per hour pump is enough. Somehow I remember when The 3000 gallon pump was put in it was more than enough. Any help determining whether or not the 2400 pump would be Greatly appreciate

How big is your pond?

Whether the pump is enough or not depends on what you want it to do. I.E. how your waterfall looks, or for proper circulation in the pond. There Is a formula on here somewhere for the former and the latter you want to shoot for 1.5-2x pond volume turnover for proper circulation in a pond your size.

Also, another way to look at it is if you can’t get the right size pump quickly anything is better than nothing for a short period.

Another consideration is the "head" required for the pump, that is, how high it has to pump the water to the top of the waterfall.

Yep, like them too. Have used them a bunch of times since we went in together to get the water matrix blocks.
Wish we were closer it was nice bs.ing about ponds with someone. But also very glad we're not my entire yard would be a pond by now. I'm getting pretty content with the pond as it is. Not to say there's not a could do list. With a couple last minute additions But overall i'm pretty happy as she sits.
I loved how you did yours with the Containment and bogs at both ends. You can do just about anything in that area and not loose a drop of water . Genius

Thanks everybody for the help with the information and advice. The next day I managed to get a good family friend to run to a Pond place and get a new pump pretty much the same as what I had. But even though I managed to get a equivalent pump. Thanks again for all the information it’ll be really helpful in the future. The one thing I learned most about this is I will have a spare pump on hand from now on. Thanks again
