Hi all, i am looking for some help with my pond as the water has turned very green over the last couple of weeks, which i cant ever remember this happening so early in the year before. UV bulbs are still working but it looks like pea soup and i can hardly see the fish. Has anyone any ideas how i can get it clear again as they would be very much appreciated. Thank you

We had koi before we closed our pond and I had two methods of keeping plants in the pond. For water lilies I zip tied deer fencing over the lily pots so the lily stems could growt through the netting but the koi could not get to the lilies.

The second method I used was to create "stands" from concrete blocks to raise water baskets much closer to the water's surface. I also placed pool noodles around the baskets and weaved in rope and tied to something on the " shore" so baskets couldn't be tipped over.

Our koi LOVED those water plant baskets, the roots grew very long and they loved nibbling on them.

You have koi- guarantee the one thing that has changed is they have grown! Green water in the spring ( or late winter) is normal. Currently I have almost a foot of ice on my ponds. Underwater cameras show string algae growing. Give it time- the pond will balance itself

I use koi clay to clear water up . It turns the water white and binds to the green and sends it straight to the filter . Plus minerals in koi clay are good for the fish . It also makes a great cleansing mask for skin . Yourskin ends up silky clean . I know some people who put it in their drinks to cleanse your whole body . But they say they use human grade clay

Green water is typically a result of nutrients in the water and little to no established biological.

This could be pointing to a undersized filter where there is not enough filtration or not enough Gallons per minute are being pushed through. Large dead spots in the pond where debris is allowed to accumulate.

A well designed and adequate filtration including plants. And the " new pond syndrome " ie green water goes away within a few weeks to a couple months. . But once established rarely see green water ever again.

Have you tried beneficial bacteria? Thats what I always use in the spring until the pond has its natural balance. I use double the dose ( as recommended on the container) until the water starts to clear, then weekly all summer. Must be nice to have this problem now!, I'm in Ontario Canada with 4 ft of snow.

Been using koi clay in my koi pond for a long time every 2 weeks. Great for the fish.

I also use my hubbys clam shells and grind them up and put them in bags in the filters . Yep koi clay does a great job no matter the season . I put it in the pond in the winter also . Not as often but still put it in .
