I have a pond,a 1200 liter pond. Now i would like to install a new filter system. My old drain outlet is 1" pvc with a 1" ball valve at the end. If i fit a 1" pvc to a gravity fed filter,would it be a suitable size? diy 3 container(54 liter)gravity fed filter with 1" pvc connection

A diagram would help but from what i can gather from your description, then no. You wont be able to gravity feed 3 filters with 1 inch pipe.
In theory, it might work, if you used a really small pump to return the water to the pond. However, i don't think this would be all that useful at removing waste from the pond into your first filter.
